RAWALPINDI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) commenced its direct flight from Multan to Skardu on Sunday.

According to the airlines’ spokesman, PIA was now operating flights to and from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan.

He said a ceremony was held at the launch of the Multan-Skardu flight, adding that PIA, as the national flag carrier, would play its role to enhance tourism in the country.

Sharing his views at the launch of the flight, PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik said with these six major connections, passengers from international destinations could easily visit tourist spots in the country, subject to easing down of Covid-19 restrictions.

He hoped that other Pakistani companies would also join in to promote tourism in the country.

Vehicles collide at airport

Two vehicles of PIA were badly damaged in a collision on the apron of Islamabad International Airport on Sunday.

However, drivers of both vehicles, Nasir Shahzad and Mohammad Jahangir, remained unhurt.

According to sources, the accident happened when a coaster and loading truck of the airlines were negotiating a turn on the domestic apron at around 11:45am when they crashed into each other. As a result, the vehicles were damaged.

Both drivers were taken to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) manager office to record their statement.
