TAXILA: Four of a family among six people drowned in three separate incidents in Attock district on Monday, police and Rescue 1122 sources said.

On Sunday, four youngsters drowned in Jhelum River while a woman and her teenage son died in a canal near Mangla Dam.

In the latest incident, four persons of a family, including a woman, her daughter and two nephews, drowned near Dhoke Peera near Shahpur dam in the jurisdiction of Fathejang police station.

Police while quoting the family members of the victim said the family from Khatta Colony went for washing clothes to the river bank where 12-year-old Sadiq Falak went into deep water for bathing but lost control and started drowning.

When he voiced alarm his 14-year-old sister Maryum went to rescue him but she also started drowning.

Seeing them in distress their cousin 10-year-old Ayesha also jumped into the water to save them but drowned. The woman seeing them drowning also tried to rescue them but drowned. Later, locals retrieved them from water but they were all breathless.

Separately, a 35-year-old man drowned while bathing at Ghazi-Barotha water channel near Kamra in the jurisdiction of Attock Saddar police station.

Police and Rescue 1122 sources said that Mohsin was bathing at the water channel but lost control and drowned.

Later Rescue 1122 retrieved his body and shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

In another incident, a teenager drowned in Haro River near Mari Kanjoor railway station in the same police station’s jurisdiction on Monday.

Rescue 1122 sources said that 16-year-old Abdul Manan-a resident of Mirza village went to the river for bathing where he lost control and drowned.

Later Rescue 1122 retrieved his body and shifted to DHQ hospital. Respective police have registered separate cases and started further investigation.
