CHARSADDA: Employees of the Wapda Hydro Power Central Union blocked a road here on Monday to protest the torture of the local Pesco superintendent by power consumers.

They also staged a rally and a sit-in at the Farooq Azam Chowk.

Power consumers from Tarnab and Hisar Yasinzai area had tortured Pesco superintendent Ashfaq Khan and damaged his vehicle during a rally against the excessive loadshedding on Sunday.

The Wapda union’s protest was led by divisional chairman of the union Jan Mohammad and leaders Sanaullah, Alamzeb, Gul Mohammad, Sadiq Akbar, Ayaz and others.

The protesters condemned attack on the Pesco superintendent and alleged that the attackers were led by power thieves and defaulters.

They said they had got FIR of the attack registered but the police hadn’t taken any action.

The protesters demanded an immediate arrest of the attackers for legal action. They warned that if the demand wasn’t met and action was not taken against power thieves and defaulters, the protest would be extended to other districts.

DROWNED: A youngster drowned in the Khyali River here on Monday.

The deceased, Abdullah, belonged to Musaffarkhel area.

The Rescue 1122 personnel recovered the body and handed it over to the family.

The district administration later imposed Section 144 barring the people from bathing in the river.
