HYDERABAD, Oct 31: The central executive committee of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz in a meeting held in Radhan on Sunday opposed a move to rehabilitate earthquake victims in Sindh.

Abdul Khaliq Junejo presided over the meeting.

The meeting suggested that the affected families should be rehabilitated close to their homes, either in Islamabad or in Punjab. The meeting warned the government that the people of Sindh would strongly oppose a move to rehabilitate the victims in any part of Sindh.

Mr Junejo said Sindh was already overburdened with the migration of people from other provinces.

He criticized the World Bank for funding the Kalabagh dam on the Indus river.

The participants of the meeting demanded that the rulers should stop opposing the Sindhi language and implement the 1972 Language Act.

The meeting offered Fateha and observed silence of two minutes on the death of renowned folk singer, Zarina Baloch.

JSMM: The chairman of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz, Mr Shafi Mohammad Burfat, has alleged that the leaders of the party, Muzaffar Bhutto, Sattar Hakro, Zulfiqar Khaskheli and Ahmed Khan Tunio were held in confinement by law-enforcement agencies and were being severely tortured.

Mr Burfat, who himself is a fugitive, was talking to reporters at the Jamshoro press club on telephone from an undisclosed location.

He said the authorities had launched an undeclared operation against them.

He said that 18 activists of the party including Asghar Shah, Sikandar Soomro, Saleem Soomro and Nazir Bhatti were languishing in jails and they were not allowed to give interviews.

The JSMM chairman said the followers of late G. M. Syed would not give up his philosophy and continue their struggle for the emancipation of Sindh.
