LARKANA, Oct 31: An NGO fearing that a woman will be murdered as kari has filed a petition in the Qambar sessions court. The court summoned DPOs of Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot along with SHOs of women’s police stations of Larkana, Qambar and Wagan on Nov 1.

The petitioner, Syed Jawed Shah, told Dawn here on Sunday that he had filed the petition in the court through advocate Siraj Chandio on behalf of the Pirbhat Women Development Society.

He said Bilqees Shabrani was married to Tharo Shabrani on Aug 14 against her will. He said that she feared to be killed on the pretext of karo-kari after the marriage, therefore, she took shelter at the Qambar police station which later handed her over to the Larkana women’s police station. Instead of shifting her to Darul Aman, police kept her moving from one police station to another. Finally, the petitioner said, she was handed over to a landlord.

The petitioner feared that the landlord, Muneer Paicheho, nazim of the Lalo Raunk union council, and Lahino Buledi, a former nazim, in collusion with relatives of Bilqees Shabrani would kill her as kari.

He said he had no information about her exact whereabouts.

He prayed the court to provide protection to the woman.

DEMONSTRATION: Relatives of arrested workers of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz and activists of the party held a protest demonstration against the arrests here on Sunday.

Anwar Khatoon, mother of the arrested Sattar Hakiro, her sister, Rasheeda, Saeeda, and others led the procession.
