HARIPUR: Two teenage boys drowned in Khanpur Dam here on Saturday.

However, another child was rescued by the divers.

The police said Sanwal Irfan, 10, Adil Manzoor, 13, and Junaid, 13, all residents of the nearby Khoi Maira village, slipped into deep water while bathing in the Khanpur Dam near Old Khanpur.

They said the local divers fished them but Sanwal Irfan and Adil Manzoor died before being taken to the hospital.

Junaid was shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital, where his condition is stated to be stabilising.

The tehsil administration has banned bathing in the dam but the Khanpur police have failed to enforce the ban.

The residents alleged that the police allowed young men to bathe in the dam after receiving bribe.
