Schoolteacher shot dead in Lower Dir

LOWER DIR: A teacher of a government girls’ middle school was shot dead allegedly by her former husband near her school in Adam Dherai village in the jurisdiction of Chakdara police station here on Friday.

Lodging an FIR with the police, Adnan Adil of Talash, the husband of the teacher and a dental technician by profession, claimed that his wife was shot dead by her former husband Khiyal Bahadar and another person belonging to Asbanr village.

The victim teacher, a mother of six children – four from the former husband and two from the present one – got divorce from Khiyal Bahadar and had married Adil some three years ago. She was on way to the government girls’ middle school, Adam Dherai, when she was attacked.

The Chakdara police registered the case and have started search for the alleged killers.

Meanwhile, the School Officers Association (SOA), Lower Dir chapter, demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the police department to arrest the killers of the teacher.

In a statement, SOA district president Aftab Alam demanded of the relevant authorities to take notice of the murder and arrest the attackers without any delay.

PLANTATION: Private Education Network (PEN), a body of schools’ heads representing the private educational institutions, on Friday launched a tree plantation campaign in Mian Banda hills of Timergara. The network’s district president Abdul Wadood and assistant commissioner, Timergara, Tahir Ali inaugurated the drive.

Scores of students from private schools, divisional forest officer Mohammad Rashid and PEN leaders Akhtar Gul and Sajjad Khan took part in the campaign and planted saplings.
