KARACHI: At least one man was shot dead and 22 others were shot at and wounded in celebratory gunfire carried out on the eve of Independence Day across the metropolis, police, hospital and rescue services officials said on Saturday.

A Karachi police spokesperson said that a man was shot dead and 22 others, including women and teenage girls and boys, were wounded in different parts of the metropolis.

Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, also confirmed that they received an aged man brought dead with bullet wounds and 10 injured persons to the hospital. Dr Jamali added that none of the injured persons had suffered life-threatening injuries.

Shah Faisal Colony police said that Yameen, 68, was shot dead when unknown persons resorted to firing in jubilation at midnight of Friday in Natha Khan Goth. The body was taken to the JPMC. Dr Seemin Jamali said the victim suffered a bullet wound to the head.

The police said that in the Kalri area of Lyari, Ghulam Rasool, 60, was injured by a stray bullet at Darya Abad near Niazi Chowk. The wounded was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for treatment.

Faheem Naseem, 31, was shot at and injured at Liaquatabad-10, said the Supermarket police. He was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

Ghulam Fareed, 50, was injured by a stray bullet at Shah Baig Lane in the Baghdadi area of Lyari, police said. The injured was taken to the CHK.

Behram Ameer, 45, was shot and wounded in Metroville near Khyber Chowk when unknown persons resorted to gunfire in jubilation late on Friday night, said the SITE-A police. The injured was shifted to the ASH.

Irfan Nazeer, 20, was injured by a stray bullet at Orangi Town No-01, near Marhaba Bakery. He was taken to the ASH for treatment.

Manza Faizan, 28, was injured by a stray bullet in Paposh Nagar near Mohammadi Masjid. The injured was shifted to the ASH for treatment.

Madiha Rashid, 12, was wounded by a stray bullet near City Courts’ Jamia Masjid. The injured was shifted to the CHK.

Ghous Mohammad, 26, was shot at and injured in jubilation firing in FC Area near Al-Falah Masjid, according to the Sharifabad police. The wounded man was taken to the ASH.

Saad Akbar, 17, was injured by a stray bullet at Moosa Lane of Lyari, according to the Baghdadi police. The injured was shifted to the CHK.

Abdul Rahman, 12, was shot and injured in celebratory firing in New Karachi, according to the police. The wounded boy was shifted to the ASH.

Shabana Saeed, 40, was injured by a stray bullet at Bilal Colony, according to the police. She was shifted to the ASH.

Shehzadi Rashid, 35, was shot at and wounded in gunfire carried out in jubilation in Sector-1 of Orangi Town, according to the police. The wounded woman was shifted to the ASH.

A 30-year-old woman, Lubah Jehanzaib, was injured by a stray bullet off the Superhighway, according to the SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police. The wounded woman was shifted to the ASH.

Ayesha Nihal, 22, was injured by a stray bullet at Five Star Chowrangi, according to the Hyderi Market police. She was shifted to the ASH.
