LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said 154 suspects were arrested for wheelies, hooliganism and aerial firing in different areas of the city on the Independence Day.

He said special contingents of the Dolphin Squad and the PRU were deployed on the main roads and important public places that ensured effective patrolling. Due to the stringent security arrangements of police, no untoward incident occurred in the city and law and situation remained in control, he added.

The CCPO stated this while chairing a meeting to review the security arrangements of Muharram on Sunday.

He lauded the performance of police to ensure security arrangements on the eve of Independence Day as well as during Majalis and mourning processions of Muharram. He acknowledged the efforts of all the operational wings and units of Lahore Police, including Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, Anti-Riot Force, Ababeel and Mobile Squads for devising a strategy to stop anti-social elements from disturbing peace in the city and maintaining a smooth flow of traffic.

Mr Dogar said stringent security arrangements were made on the eve of Independence Day and Muharram programs and no loss of life was reported due to preventive measures of police on the national day. He said 4,000 policemen were deputed in different areas of the city to provide foolproof security to the participants in the Muharram processions and Majalis.

The CCPO directed all the divisional SPs to remain in field and ensure implementation of the security plan under their supervision.

He visited different areas of the city including imambargahs and routes of mourning processions along with special police pickets to check the security arrangements.
