ISLAMABAD: The federal capital remains the only city out of the 25 major cities having a population of one million to have surpassed the 40pc vaccinated population target set by the government to be achieved by Aug 31.

According to data of the district administration, 61pc citizens of Islamabad are either partially or fully inoculated.

On the other hand, 321 more people got infected with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with a positivity ratio calculated at 8.15pc.

The data revealed that over 1.3 million doses had been administered in the federal capital as a result of which 61pc of the total eligible population was fully or partially vaccinated.

An official of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS), requesting not to be named, said the health authorities were aiming to make Islamabad fully vaccinated as soon as possible.

He urged people to get inoculated at the earliest so that the life in the city could return to normality.

The data showed that on Saturday as many as 3,938 tests were conducted out of which 321 results were found positive.

Rawalpindi

One person died and 201 people got infected in Rawalpindi district on Sunday while 226 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the deadly virus. The positivity rate was recorded at 11.68pc in the district.

Khalida Bibi, 45, a resident of Mohallah Dhak Murree, was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on August 21 where she died on Sunday.

There are 1,925 active patients in the district with 210 admitted to hospitals and 1,715 home isolated.

As many as 45 patients arrived from the cantonment areas, 47 from city areas and 59 patients from Potohar Town. A total of 28 patients arrived from Gujar Khan, seven each from Kallar Syedan and Kotli Sattian, four from Taxila and two patients each from Murree and Kahuta.

As many as 48 patients were admitted to Holy Family Hospital, 32 were in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 78 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), three patients were admitted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, 42 patients were under treatment in Fauji Foundation Hospital, four patients were in Bilal Hospital, two patients were admitted to Hearts International Hospital and one patient was being treated at Begum Akhtar Sultana Trust Hospital.

There are eight patients on ventilator in Rawalpindi, 126 needed oxygen support and 76 were stable.

Deputy Commissioner Aamir Aqiq Khan said the positivity rate of active patients in the district had increased to 11pc and there was a dire need to follow the standard operating procedures.

He said all assistant commissioners had been asked to visit public places and check violation of health guidelines and take necessary action against violators.

Attock

One person succumbed to the virus while 16 more tested positive in Attock.

With the emergence of new cases, the district tally has increased to 2,373.

According to the health officials, eight positive cases were reported from Pindigheb, two each from Hazro and Fatehjang and one from Jand.

An official said the number of active patients in the district had also surged to 72 out of which 71 were home isolated.

He said 11 suspected patients were also admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Responding to another question, the official said the number of suspected cases in the district was 58,335 while screening of 61,587 people had been carried out. — Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
