LAHORE: The Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) has rejected appointment of non-engineers on the posts of engineers in various departments of federal and provincial governments and demanded that the government must withdraw the decision it has taken in this regard.

“In the irrigation department of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, non-engineers (B-Tech and Diploma holders) are being promoted to grade-18 posts through a special quota. Similarly, the non-engineers are also being posted for the jobs meant to be filled by the engineers in Radio Pakistan, PTV, CDA, Wapda, Distribution Companies and other departments,” IEP Secretary General Ameer Zameer Khan said while speaking to the participants in a meeting held here to lodge protest on the issue.

Flanked by Young Engineers Association’s President Jawad Gilani, Mr Khan condemned the decision and termed it against Pakistan Engineering Council Act and Supreme Court of Pakistan’s verdict. “If the decisions being taken by the government are not withdrawn, we will have no option but to launch countrywide protests from next week,” he warned.
