BAHAWALNAGAR: The Fort Abbas police claimed on Sunday to have arrested a man on the charge of raping a schoolteacher.

The suspect — the owner of the school — was arrested after a case was registered against him on Aug 19 at the Fort Abbas police station on the complaint of the teacher.

According to the FIR, the school owner, a resident of Chak 299/HR, called the teacher on Aug 19 around 10am and asked her to join a school meeting.

It said that when the woman reached the school, the suspect overpowered her with the help of his armed accomplice and took her to a room where he subjected her to sexual assault.

The FIR said passersby Muhammad Asif and Ashfaq rescued her after hearing her hue and cry but the suspects made good their escape.

Fort Abbas DSP Malik Iqbal told Dawn that the prime suspect was being interrogated.

He said initial medical examination of the woman had been conducted and police were awaiting the report for further proceedings.

SHOT DEAD: Two brothers were gunned down over an old enmity at Chak 286/HR, Fort Abbas on Saturday night.

According to locals, Aslam and Usman Ghani, residents of Chak 286/HR, were on their way home by a motorbike when Talha Khadim along with his three armed

accomplices including Ramzan and Imran chased them and stopped them near the outhouse of Mushtaq Jutt at 318/HR. They said the assailants shot dead the two brothers and fled.

The Maroot police registered a murder case against four people on the complaint of Ali Sher, a brother of the deceased, and started investigation.
