RAWALPINDI: Police have arrested the head of a seminary on charges of trying to sexually assault and beat a female student.

A spokesman said the Pirwadhai police arrested the suspect on the charges of offering resistance/hiding to avoid arrest in the alleged rape/torture case.

The suspect had earlier sought an interim bail in the case registered against him on Aug 17.

The spokesman said the SSP investigation and SP Rawal Division had been assigned the task to probe the case.

A police investigating officer said the suspect had been arrested while a female instructor, who was also nominated in the FIR, was still at large.

The head and a female instructor of the seminary were booked by the police after a student accused them of trying to sexually assault and torture her.

According to the first information report (FIR), the victim’s father said his daughter had been studying in the seminary for over seven years.

He said he received a phone call from the management, requesting him to pick up his daughter as she had fainted.

After regaining consciousness, the student informed her father that the seminary head had been trying to harass her for the last five to six months but she always managed to avoid him.

The FIR stated that one of the teachers took the girl into the room of the seminary head where he attempted to sexually assault her.

However, when the victim resisted, she was subjected to torture both by the teacher and the head.

The victim’s father said she was given some tranquilisers following which she fainted and did not remember what happened to her afterwards.

Police said a medical examination of the victim was conducted but the report is still awaited.
