KOHAT: A closed U-turn in front of the main gate of Liaquat Memorial Hospital here has been causing immense trouble to women patients as the vehicles carrying them have to make a detour of about a kilometre to take a turn from Kutcheri Chowk to reach the hospital.
Medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Gule Rana told Dawn on Tuesday that they performed 50 to 60 delivery cases daily and condition of the patients in some cases turned serious due to delay in approaching the hospital because of making the detour.
She said the U-turn in front of the hospital should be opened as traffic jams during peak hours at nearby Peshawar Chowk was a routine.
Mutahidda Junglekhel Association president Dr Hashim told this correspondent that many a timewomen had to give birth to babies in the vehicles due to delay in reaching the hospital.
The U-turn was closed due to security reasons more than a decade ago.
‘BLASPHEMOUS SKETCHES’: District police officer Sohail Khalid said in a statement on Tuesday that they were trying to identify through the cybercrime department a fake ID holder on a Facebook page ‘Khawagar’ for allegedly posting blasphemous sketches of Sahaba Kiram (companions of the Prophet).
A case has been registered against the unknown ID holder under sections 292A and 296A in Junglekhel police station.
The case was filed by a resident of Junglekhel, Shah Nawaz.
Meanwhile, Sunni Supreme Council staged a protest meeting in Kotwali Mosque wherein its divisional chairman Javed Ibraheem Paracha and others demanded arrest of the holder of the Facebook ID in the case.
HASHISH SEIZED: Ustarzai police seized four kilogrammes of hashish and arrested two persons who were trying to smuggle the drug from Orakzai district to Punjab in a car on Tuesday.
The seizure was made during checking at Marai checkpost.
The alleged smugglers belonged to Orakzai district and a case has been registered against them.
