MANSEHRA: A youngster killed an elderly man over an old enmity here on Wednesday.
The police claimed that they had arrested the gunman along with a taxi driver for trying to help him flee.
District police officer Asif Bahadur told reporters here that Mohammad Hussain, 18, gunned down shopkeeper Mohammad Ali, 80, at Badra Chowk on the Karakoram Highway in revenge for the killing of his father and bothers over an old marriage.
He said the deceased and the gunman’s paternal aunt had married of their free will 40 years ago.
The DPO said Mohammad Ali was later arrested over the murder of Mohammad Hussain’s father and brother but was acquitted by the court after a decade.
Shareen Khan, who lodged the FIR, said the matter about the marriage of his elder brother, Mohammad Ali, was settled through ajirga after his family gave away an oxen and Rs1,200 cash to Mohammad Hussain’s family as compensation.
ROAD PROJECT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday launched work on the second phase of the Nawazabad-Mundi Meadow Road.
Federal preliminary secretary and MNA Salah Mohammad Khan told reporters that the government had released Rs1.37 billion for the project under an initiative to promote tourism in the Siren valley.
He said three bridges would be built on the road.
KILLED: A man was killed and another suffered critical injuries when two motorcycles they rode collided in Dugai area of Oghi tehsil on Wednesday.
The accident occurred to speeding.
Injured Mohammad Irfan died on the way to the Oghi civil hospital, while Mohammad Shoaib was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, due to critical wounds. The Oghi police registered an FIR and began investigation.
