MULTAN: Mohammad Afzaal followed his hat-trick in the previous game with a double on Wednesday night as Pakistan Army cruised past Civil Aviation Authority 3-0 to go top of the fledgling Pakistan Premier Football League on goal difference.

After Mateen Tariq opened the scoring for Army at the Qasim Bagh Football Stadium in the fifth minute, Afzaal doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark before sealing the result in second-half stoppage time.

Having started off on a losing note, Army have won back-to-back matches are moved to six points from three matches, provisionally ahead of Muslim FC Chaman, Wapda and Pakistan Air Force.

Muslim FC and Wapda are the only two teams to have made a perfect start to the season, the former playing their third match on Saturday against Sui Southern Gas Company and the latter squaring off against Pakistan Navy on Thursday night.

The first edition of the country’s top-tier league in two-and-half years is being held by the court-elected Pakistan Football Federation of Ashfaq Hussain Shah which is not recognised by FIFA.
