ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Three persons died and 589 more contracted the fatal virus in the federal capital and Rawalpindi on Saturday.

According to data, the positivity ratio recorded in Rawalpindi district was 8.1pc whereas in Islamabad, it was 7.11pc.

In federal capital, a patient, in his 70s, lost his battle against Covid-19 while 383 more got infected in the last 24 hours.

Officials of the capital administration said the deceased was a resident of G-11.

During the last 24 hours, 5,386 tests were conducted out of which results of 204 males and 179 females came back positive.

The officials said 89 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 76 in 20-29, 48 in 40-49, 42 in 10-19, 41 each in 0-9 and 50-59, 27 in 60-69, 14 in 70-79 and three cases were recorded in the age bracket of 80 and above.

There are 5,483 active cases in the federal capital as of Aug 28, out of which 194 are in hospitals and the remaining are isolated in their houses.

Meanwhile, the number of beds allocated in different hospitals for Covid-19 patients was further increased from 809to 836 on Saturday, the officials said, adding that out of the total, 415 beds were occupied.

The bed occupancy rate was calculated at 49.64pc whereas the ratio of vent use stood at 40pc. As many as 48 patients were on ventilators.

On the other hand, two persons died and 206 more contracted the deadly virus in Rawalpindi.

A total of 108 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering during the last 24 hours.

Azhar Mehmood, 53, a resident of Khas Adiala, was brought to Hearts International Hospital on Aug 27 where he succumbed to the virus on Saturday.

Ajab Jan, 80, from Dhoke Kala Khan, breathed her last at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on Saturday where she was shifted a day earlier.

According to data, Rawalpindi district has 2,037 active patients, with 205 under treatment in hospitals, including 20 patients from other districts, and 1,832 home isolated.

A total of 60 patients arrived from the cantonment areas, 35 from city areas and 44 patients came from Potohar Town.

As many as 29 patients were from Kahuta, nine from Gujar Khan, two from Kallar Syedan, four from Murree and seven patients arrived from Taxila.

Six patients were brought from Azad Kashmir, three from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two patients each from Islamabad

and Jhelum and one patient each from Attock, Chakwal, Bahawalnagar and Chakwal.

As many as 231 coronavirus patients were admitted to the city’s hospitals out of whom 25 were in Holy Family Hospital, 32 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 90 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, four patients were under treatment in District Headquarters Hospital, 32 patients in Fauji Foundation Hospital, five patients were admitted to Bilal Hospital while two patients each were in Hearts International Hospital and Begum Akhtar Sultana Trust Hospital.

There are 10 patients on ventilator, 112 on oxygen support and 83 are reported to be stable.
