NAWABSHAH, Nov 6: A large number of people took out a procession in Qazi Ahmed Town in protest against robbery in the house of Seth Jhamandas on Sunday.

The business community of the town closed their shops.

Mukhi Preem Chand, president of the Hindu Panchayat, and Haji Khan Lakho, president of the Merchant Association, led the protesters.

The protesters marched to the press club and staged a demonstration.

Mukhi Preem Chand said incidents of crime were increasing in the town and police had failed to arrest culprits.

He said the robbery in the house of Seth Jhamandas on Sunday was not an isolated incident and his shop had earlier been looted by armed men.

He said that several theft incidents had occurred in Mandir.

He said the matter was reported to the police but in vain.

The protesters demanded that the IG police should direct the local police to ensure recovery of looted money and gold.

They said that in case police failed to arrest the robbers they would continue their protest.

Seth Jhamandas lodged an FIR against four people stating that the accused barged into his house early on Sunday morning and looted gold and cash worth Rs200,000.

Talking to Dawn Mukhi Preem Chand said a delegation of residents also met MPA Jam Tamachi Unnar and Sher Mohammad Unnar who assured them of full cooperation.

URS: Annual Urs of Sakhi Jam Dattar will start from November 7 some 24 kilometres away from here at Jam Saheb town.

Sindh law minister Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain will inaugurate the Urs celebrations of Syed Asghar Ali Shah alias Sakhi Jam Dattar.

District Nazim Faryal Talpur has announced November 7 as public holiday in the district on the occasion.
