TAXILA: Almost all major political parties and local political groups have started flexing their muscles for the local bodies elections scheduled to be held in the two cantonment boards of Attock on September 12 on a party basis.

The respective election authorities on Thursday finalised arrangements by allotting election symbols and declaring polling stations of the wards in the garrison cities of Attock and Kamra.

According to the election authorities, in Cantonment Board Attock, the number of registered voters is 11,936 which include 5,448 male and 6,448 female voters for which six candidates are in the field for the three general member seats. For the general seats of Attock Cantt Ward I and Ward II, four candidates are in run - Shah Nawaz Malik, Syed Mehdi Naqvi, Shakeel Ahmed Khan and Shehzad Ahmad.

As many as seven polling stations have been set up in Attock, which include three for males, three females and one combined.

Interestingly, no female candidate has filed nomination papers from the Attock Cantonment.

On the other hand, in Cantonment Board Sanjwal, the number of registered voters is 1,670, which include 872 male and 793 female voters.

In Kamra, one female candidate has been elected unopposed from Ward 4 while election for other four wards has been cancelled as all the candidates who had filed their nomination papers for four constituencies have withdrawn their nomination papers because of some differences with the authorities of the cantonment board.

To conduct these elections under the supervision of the district returning officer, two returning officers, four assistant returning officers, 15 presiding officers, 15 senior presiding officers, 29 assistant presiding officers and 44 polling officers will perform their duties.
