SWABI: Students of pharmacy department of the University of Swabi on Monday staged a protest demonstration against holding of on-campus examinations.

The students gathered at the main campus and marched from there to the Anbar bus stop, where they blocked the Swabi-Jahangera Road.

The protesting students chanted slogans against the varsity management for holding the on-campus examinations. The students vowed not to appear in the physical examination as they had attended the classes online.

When contacted, varsity officials said the examination would be held in the campus as all arrangements had been completed for the purpose.

A teacher of the pharmacy department said the students should discuss the issue with the vice-chancellor, the registrar and controller of examinations.

Separately, the police claimed to have arrested 140 drug smugglers and seized 850 kilogrammes of charas and weapons from them during crackdowns last month.

Talking to mediapersons on Monday, district police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan said three kalakovs, 39 Kalashnikovs, 30 rifles and 430 pistols were also seized from them.

He said an eight-member gang of bike lifters had also been busted and 32 snatched and stolen motorcycles recovered from them.
