Former Interim Minister and recipient of Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq, recently received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Education from the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom in recognition of his exemplary services in the educational sector of Pakistan.

Mushtaq has made various contributions in the areas of educational development and youth empowerment in Pakistan, and is also the founder and CEO of Roots Millennium and TMUC Education Group Pakistan.

This year, in appreciation of his numerous contributions to academia, the University of Hertfordshire awarded Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq an Honorary Doctor of Education at their annual convocation ceremony held at the historic Saint Albans and Abbey Cathedral.

The commencement ceremony was presided by the vice chancellor, Professor Quintin McKellar, who acknowledged Mushtaq's dedication to reforming and improving education and literacy in Pakistan.

In his acceptance and commencement speech at the ceremony, Mushtaq addressed the importance of educational empowerment in the developing world and said, "In today’s time and age, the only thing which is certain is uncertainty, the only constant in the world is change, and the only thing you must learn is to unlearn and relearn."

He also thanked the University of Hertfordshire for honouring him with the Doctorate of Education and expressed his joy of receiving the honorary degree from an institution that has a legacy of educating and nurturing young minds from across the world.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, the proud educationist and social entrepreneur said, "This recognition is dedicated to my country Pakistan. For me, teaching and learning is a journey, not a destination". He also pledged to contribute towards a holistic yet inclusive educational provision, aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development in Pakistan.

Commitment to serve the nation

Apart from establishing the Roots Millennium Education group, Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq has also founded an NGO, the Change in Education Foundation.

The organisation works with the public education sector in Pakistan, by scaling reforms and expanding opportunities to deserving children all over the country. They also offer teacher training programs and work on capacity building, particularly in rural and less privileged areas.

The Change in Education Foundation has successfully reformed more than 200 government schools across Pakistan over the last 15 years.

Honours and achievements

In 2013, Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq was one of the youngest people to be conferred with one of the highest National Civil Awards in Pakistan – the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, by the President of Pakistan in recognition of his outstanding services in language promotion, education, literacy, youth and advocacy.

He has been recognised as one of the 500 most influential Muslims of the world for three consecutive years from 2014 to 2016 by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center.

In 2012, Mushtaq was recognised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the Best Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2013, and as Best Educationist of the Year in 2014 by the President of Pakistan.
