Elections in Balochistan’s 3 cantonment boards to be held on Sept 12

QUETTA: The election commission has completed all arrangements for holding elections in three Cantonment Boards in Balochistan — Quetta, Zhob and Loralai.

One candidate was elected unopposed from one ward of Loralai Cantonment Board as no other candidate filed nomination papers against him and after scrutiny of nomination papers he was declared elected unopposed.

Polling in all the three cantonment boards would be held on Sept 12.

Officials of the election commissioner in Balochistan said that polling would be held in a total of seven wards — five in Quetta and one each in Zhob and Loralai.

As many as 35 candidates, including independent and political nominees, are contesting election for five seats of Quetta Cantonment Board. Seven candidates are in the run in two wards of Zhob and five in Loralai cantonment ward.

A total 28,945 — 15,346 male and 13,599 female — voters from five wards of Quetta Cantonment would exercise their right of vote.

In Zhob Cantonment, 808 — 447 male and 361 female — voters will cast their vote in two wards of Zhob Cantonment Board.

Election on one of two wards of Loralai Cantonment Board election would be held where there are 1,331 voters — 659 male and 572 female.

On five general seats of Quetta Cantonment Board, 35 candidates of different political parties including, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamiat Ulama-i-Islami are in the run.
