HYDERABAD, Nov 7: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has regularized services of 433 employees who have been working in the company for three years on contract basis.

A spokesman for the company said the company’s board, headed by Hesco chief engineer Jamiluddin, and comprising senior officials, had recommended regularization of the employees in different categories.

Hesco chief executive Maqbool Ahmad Khwaja accepted the recommendations of the committee board and regularized the services of the employees on Monday.

Of these employees, 14 are commercial assistants, eight data entry operators, four data coders, one telephone operator-cum-clerk, one driver, 33 line superintendents-I, 16 line superintendents-II, three sub-station operators-I, 16 sub-station operators-II, two sub-station attendants, five assistant sub-station attendants, 23 meter readers, 51 bill distributors and 256 assistant linemen.

Congratulating the regularized employees, Mr Khwaja said this was a reward for their good work and added that so far, 1,200 employees had been confirmed in service due to their good work.

DEVELOPMENT WORKS: The joint secretary from Sindh, prime minister’s secretariat, Syed Arshad Ali Shah, here on Monday inspected ongoing development works of Hesco in the Thatta district along with MNA Syed Aijaz Ali Shah Shirazi.

Twenty-five villages are being provided with electricity facility from discretionary funds of the prime minister. The project would cost Rs18 million.

The project director (construction) of Hesco, Habibullah Khilji, and other company officials accompanied the joint secretary and Mr Shirazi briefed them on the ongoing work.

The joint secretary directed Hesco officials to complete the schemes before December.

DEVELOPMENT BUDGET: The district development council of Tando Mohammad Khan has protested against authorities for not carrying out development works from the Rs50 million budget allocated by the Sindh government.

The council, which comprises representatives of political and social organizations, met in Tando Mohammad Khan on Sunday under the chairmanship of Abdul Hakim Memon, who is also the president of the District Bar Association.

It regretted that no development work was being carried out from the first instalment of Rs50 million allocated by Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

The meeting resolved to hold a workers’ convention on Nov 15 to discuss the issue.

Speaking on the occasion, members of the organizing committee, Saghar Solangi, Zarina Kolachi, Maula Bux Jiskani and others, demanded that the chief minister should appoint a conscientious officer to carry out development works, especially in the fields of health and education.

SPLA: The chairman of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association’s central election committee, Prof Gul Zaman Qazi, has extended the date for receiving nomination forms from candidates for election of the association from Nov 9 to 10.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, he said the election for the central body would be held for two years in Karachi, Sukkur and Hyderabad regions.

He said the election for the central body would be held on Nov 29 at the Government Muslim Science College, Hyderabad, whereas the elections for Karachi, Sukkur and Hyderabad regions as well as election of office-bearers of various districts would be held on Nov 19.
