Unreasonable fee hike

Published September 10, 2021

MY children are enrolled in two of the prestigious private schools of Karachi, and both the schools have raised their tuition fee. There is no logical reason for increase in the fee as during the ongoing pandemic, the expenditure of the schools has actually gone down owing to online classes.

Ironically, the expenses increased for the parents who had to arrange laptops, notebooks and tablets to enable their children to attend the online classes. Instead of raising the school fee, there should have been a decrease of around 20-25 per cent on the pattern of the early Covid days that had brought some relief to the parents at the time.

The government should intervene directly and ensure that school administrations must curtail the fee realistically. Moreover, I would like to suggest that on-site schools should not re-open till the pandemic is over.
