ISLAMABAD: A total of 11 people died of Covid-19 in Rawalpindi and Islamabad districts and 404 new cases emerged on Friday. Positivity ratio in Islamabad was recorded at 5.6pc and 8.7pc in Rawalpindi district.

Furthermore, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has extended closure of educational institutions till Sept 15.

Officials of the capital administration said deaths of two male patients (70-79), two female patients (40-49, 60-69) and another male patient (30-39) were reported in the capital.

According to a notification, in continuation of the directorate’s letter and National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) reference, extension of non-preventive interventions in selected districts of the country, all on campus, academic activities in educational institutions under the ambit of FDE will remain suspended till Sept 15.

Likewise, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (FEPT) and Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (Peira) also extended the closure of private educational institutions till Sept 15. A notification issued in this regard said in pursuance of the decision taken in the meeting at NCOC and in continuation of the earlier notification, the closure of private educational institutions in Islamabad has been extended up till Sept 15 owing to spike in Covid-19 cases. However, academic activities may be continued online, it added.

All private educational institutions are advised to ensure compliance of government policy in true letter and spirit, it added.

During the last 24 hours 4,529 tests were conducted in the capital for detection , capital administration officials said, adding out of the total 148 men and 106 women tested positive.

They said 64 cases were reported in the age group of 20-29 followed by 56 in 30-39, 34 in 40-49, 26 in 50-59, 23 each in 0-9 and 10-19, 14 in 60-69, nine in 70-79, five in 80 and above.

Addresses of 99 cases are not known, they said, adding 13 cases were reported from Lohi Bher, followed by 11 from Bhara Kahu, 10 from G-9, nine from F-10, seven each from G-6, Rawat, I-10, and F-11, six each from Tarlai, G-7, G-8, and Khanna, five each from G-13, and G-5, four each from G-10, and Sohan, three each from F-6, Chak Shahzad, F-5, E-7, two each from I-9, Alipur, Kurri, Kirpa, Rawal Town, Model Town, and H-9, and one each from I-8, G-11, E-11, F-7, F-8, Koral, D-12, Chirah, Sihala, Bari Imam, B-17, Jhangi Syedan, Tarnol, H-12, I-11, and Pind Begwal.

Meanwhile, six people passed away after contracting the virus in Rawalpindi district.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Aslam, 80, resident of Dhoke Chiraghdin, Javaid Akhter, 75, resident of Faisal Shaheed Road Taxila, Ghor Rehman, 72, resident of New Malpur, Mohammad Asghar, 70, resident of Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), Mohammad Shamim, 73, resident of Adiala Road, shifted to RIU and Mohammad Tufail, 78, resident of Gulshanabad, who was shifted to Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital.

As many as 129 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery during the last 24 hours.

A total of 1,720 samples were collected during the last 24 hours and 1,570 were declared Covid-19 free.

There are 2,270 active patients in the district; 185 are in hospitals including 80 who arrived from other districts and 2,085 patients are home isolated.

As many as 34 patients arrived from cantonment areas, 18 from city areas, 32 from Potohar Town, two from Kallar Syedan, three from Kotli Sattian, two from Kahuta, 26 from Gujar Khan and 21 from Taxila. Two patients each arrived from Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Sargodha while five from Chakwal and one from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As many as 185 patients are admitted in city hospitals including 20 in Holy Family Hospital, 44 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 71 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), five in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, 34 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH), four in Bilal Hospital, three in Hearts International Hospital, two in Attock Hospital while one patient is in Akhter Rukhsana Memorial Welfare Trust Hospital.

There are eight patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 97 are on oxygen support and 80 are stable.
