CHITRAL: Eight schools were closed in Lower Chitral district and two in Upper Chitral district on Friday after scores of students tested positive for coronavirus.

Officials said the screening of other students, teachers and other staff members of those schools for Covid-19 was under way.

Deputy district health officer of Lower Chitral Dr Ziaullah Khan told Dawn that 30 students were diagnosed with coronavirus in Government Girls High School Ayun, two in Government High School Ashrait, nine in Aga Khan School Begusht, eight in Government Girls High School Drosh, five each in Government Primary School Kalkatak and Frontier Corps Public School Drosh, four in Aga Khan School Uchu, and two in Al-Nasir School Garam Chashma.

When contacted, district health officer of Upper Chitral Dr Rahmat Aman said Government High School Drasun and Government Primary School Kushum Bala were closed after their students were infected with Covid-19.

He said some villages in Upper Chitral district were being monitored and lockdown would be imposed there to stem the spread of coronavirus.
