LAHORE: A resolution has been submitted to the Punjab Assembly urging the federal and provincial governments to make arrangements for treatment of actor Omer Sharif in the USA.

The resolution was submitted by PML-N MPA Aneeza Fatima.

The resolution says that Omer Sharif’s health is bad and he has been told by doctors that his treatment is not possible in Pakistan.

According to the resolution, Mr Sharif can get the best possible treatment in the USA. It says the comedian is an asset for Pakistan and provincial and federal governments should make arrangements for his treatment.

Meanwhile, Indian Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi, in a video message, requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to help the ailing actor in getting the speedy treatment. He has reminded the PM that Omer Sharif, many other big artistes such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Mehndi himself had extended great support to Imran Khan for collecting funds for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.

Mr Sharif suffered a heart attack last month and according to his close friend, Pervaiz Kaifi, he had already gone through two heart bypasses. He said Sharif needed immediate treatment.

Sharif’s wife Zareen Umar said the family did not want any financial support.

“What is urgently needed is the air ambulance because Sharif could not travel in the regular flight owing to his serious condition,” she said.

On the other hand, the government has already accepted Mr Sharif’s request and it is trying to get a US visa for him as soon as possible.
