ISLAMABAD: One Paki­stani peacekeeper emb­ra­ced martyrdom while on duty in the Darfur region of Sudan.

In a press release on Saturday, the Inter-Services Public Relations identified the soldier as Lance Naik Adil Jan, a resident of Lakki Marwat.

Adil Jan, a member of Frontier Corps, Balochistan, was part of the UN mission in Darfur responsible for the protection of civilians and facilitating humanitarian assistance.

So far, 161 Pakistani peacekeepers have laid down their lives as part of global missions for international peace and stability.

Minister of State for Information and Broadc­asting Farrukh Habib offered condolences over the death of Adil Jan.

In a statement, he said Pakistan was a peace-loving country. He said the entire nation paid tribute to Pakistan Army’s soldiers who were martyred for ensuring world peace.
