Vaughan doubtful for Multan Test

LAHORE, Nov 7: England’s chances for success in the first Test against Pakistan took a knock after skipper Michael Vaughan’s sustained injury to his right knee in the three-day match against Pakistan ‘A’ at Bagh-i-Jinnah on Monday.

England team medical chief, Peter Gregory, said though he would be in a position to comment on Vaughan’s availability for the Multan Test after receiving the scanning report buty he admitted the initial reports revealed chances were ‘slim’.

Vaughan had faced the same problem last year during the series against New Zealand and was operated for the same injury in 2002-03.

“Michael is upset about the injury at this stage and it is going to be complicated because he had scans on that knee before,” Gregory said.

He said that he would make the comparisons of the scanning report with the previous reports and the next 24 to 48 hours were important.

Gregory added that if the scans revealed Vaughan has suffered a tear that would be the end of his tour as surgery would be necessary in that case.
