KARACHI: The body of a suspect wanted in a case pertaining to “targeted killing” of a policeman was found dumped in Hawa Goth of Orangi Town on Tuesday, officials said.

They claimed that the deceased, Muhammad Shaheen, had shot himself to death, arguing that a suicide note and a pistol were found beside his body.

Shaheen was wanted vide an FIR (75/2021) lodged against him by the counter-terrorism department (CTD) at the relevant police station in Karachi for his involvement in the targeted killing of ASI Akram Khan.

Asif Bhayya, an alleged associate of the deceased, was recently arrested in a joint operation carried out by Rangers and police personnel.

ASI Akram Khan of the Manghopir investigation branch was martyred on August 28.

Money laundering case

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a man and his son for their alleged involvement in Hawala/Hundi (money laundering) business and seized local and foreign currency from them.

According to a spokesperson for the Sindh FIA, the commercial banking circle of the agency arrested Muhammad Yaseen and his son, Yasir, in a locality situated along Khalid Bin Waleed Road and seized over Rs5 million, US$34,300, 200 Euros, gold jewellery, prize bonds, mobile phones and a laptop from them.

The suspects were operating the illegal business from their home, FIA officials said.

‘MQM-L activist’ held

The Karachi police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested an alleged Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London activist, and claimed that he was involved in criminal activities.

An officials of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) said that the arrested suspect, Muhammad Shafaat, was “actively involved in the May 12, 2007 riots”.

According to the official, Shafqat was arrested on a tip-off in a Manghopir locality and an illegal 30-bore revolver was seized from him.

During the initial interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had remained an active worker of MQM and also performed security duty at the party’s headquarters ‘Nine Zero’.

The official said he had escaped to Dubai when the law-enforcement agencies initiated an operation in Karachi and returned to the city some time back.
