BAJAUR: An elder of Mamond tribe narrowly escaped a roadside bomb explosion here in Bajaur tribal district, residents and the police said on Tuesday.

They said that the explosion occurred in Chinagai area of Mamond tehsil late on Monday evening.

According to residents and family members, Malik Ramdad Khan was on way to his home from a nearby area when an explosive device placed along a link road went off. They, however, said the elder remained unhurt in the blast.

The police said a team reached the spot and cordoned off the area to trace the culprits.

According to a statement, a search operation was launched in the area after registration of a case against unknown persons at a local police station.

However, no arrests were made till Tuesday afternoon, the statement said.
