UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan … came out against the American proposal for dual representation of China at the United Nations and said Peking would not come to the world body on that basis. “Partial representation means no representations at all for China or for any other member state,” Mr Agha Shahi, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, told the General Committee meeting which approved the agenda for the General Assembly.

The General Committee consists of five permanent members of the Security Council, chairman of seven committees and 17 vice presidents. … Pakistan was given the floor as co-sponsor of the resolution calling for the restoration of the legal rights of People’s Republic of China. — Agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by the newspaper’s correspondent in Karachi,] Mr Nurul Amin, President of the Pakistan Democratic Party, said in Karachi ... that the PDP would proceed in a big way to contest the by-elections in East Pakistan. He said that after his return to Dacca … he would sort out the preliminaries of the election programme with his party workers....

… Asked whether he was agreeable to an electoral alliance between the PDP and other like-minded parties in view of the coming by-elections, Mr Nurul Amin replied in the affirmative, stressing, however, that the offer … must be genuine and in accord strictly with the national interest.
