Two cops held for ‘missing’ person murder

Two policemen among three people were arrested over suspicion of their involvement in the killing of a 19-year-old man in Clifton, police said on Sunday.

The young victim had gone missing last year and was in the list of missing persons.

According to South SSP Zubair Nazeer Shaikh, Ali Raza had gone missing in Clifton’s Shah Rasool Colony on Aug 12, 2020.

The family had lodged a report about his alleged abduction and his name was also included in the Sindh High Court’s missing persons’ list.

The senior officer said that the victim teenager was taken to Sakran in Balochistan where he was murdered and it transpired during investigation that the two policemen were involved in the murder.

The police with help of technology and available evidences arrested both the policemen and their civilian accomplice in this connection.

He added that investigators had obtained the cell phone of the victim and traced the number of one, Naveed Shahzad, whose location was traced from the place where Ali Raza’s cell phone was powered off last time.

Initially, the police detained Shahzad in Attock in Punjab and during interrogation, the suspect ‘confessed’ to have killed the teenager with help of two police constables Asad and Auranzeb. Both of them were arrested.

The suspects ‘admitted’ that they had kidnapped Ali Raza in Shah Rasool Colony in Clifton and took him to Sakran where both the constables killed him at a deserted place in bushes.

The SSP said that the motive for the murder could not be ascertained immediately.
