ISLAMABAD: While 108 more people were found infected with Covid-19 in the federal capital on Sunday, the positivity ratio decreased by 1.6pc in the last one week.
On the other hand, over 200 cases of dengue have been reported in the city so far, but health authorities are hopeful that a cold weather will eradicate the mosquito after mid-October.
District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia in a social media media post stated: “The weekly positivity of Covid-19 for the last week remained 3.08pc and it was 4.62pc for the week before. We are continuously monitoring the situation for both dengue and Covid-19, as our teams are out there making all the necessary efforts. Follow SOPs for both dengue and Covid-19.”
According to a document available with Dawn, 907 cases were reported last week compared to 1,497 cases a week earlier. When contacted, Dr Zia told Dawn that Covid-19 cases were on the decline again but added that the citizens should strictly adhere to the SOPs.
Replying to a question about dengue, he said in 2019 as many as 13,000 cases were reported and the situation had gone out of control.
“However, this year we have been monitoring the situation with an increased surveillance due to which the situation is under control. The season of dengue starts in May and ends in October. Till date around 200 cases of dengue have been reported and we have been hoping that the temperature would drop soon due to which the mosquito will be killed by the end of next month,” he said.
Dr Zia said though it was a difficult task but the health department team was focusing on containing both the Covid-19 and dengue cases.
