LAHORE: Eighteen national women players will take part in a 16-day training camp to prepare themselves for the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifier, which will be played in Zimbabwe from Nov 21 to Dec 5.
The camp, which starts in Karachi on Oct 5, will continue till Oct 20.
The probables were announced by chief selector Urooj Mumtaz on Thursday, one day before the new head of the Women Cricket Wing Tania Malik has to take charge.
The office has been vacant since May when Urooj holding the dual role of head of the wing and chief selector preferred to resign from the former’s post.
Meanwhile, among the probables five players who are not on the central contracts list, having their names and as many players, who are in the list of central contracts have been ignored.
The women, who are missing from the list of probables, despite having the central contract are Nahida Khan, Aroob Shah, Najiha Alvi, Saba Nazir and Kainat Hafeez. Five girls who are not centrally contracted but got places in the list are Aiman Anwar, Ayesha Zafar, Sidra Amin, Iram Javed and Maham Tariq.
Pakistan women team’s head coach David Hemp is to join the camp.
“During the camp the players will work on their fitness, match practice, scenario-based practice and match sessions keeping in mind the Zimbabwe event. To provide a challenging environment to the players, matches against the U-19 boys’ team will also be held at the camp,” a PCB press release stated.
