DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A captain was martyred during an exchange of fire with terrorists in Tank district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Thursday.

Sources said Captain Sikandar embraced martyrdom when security forces were conducting an intelligence-based operation against the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in the Dabara area adjacent to South Waziristan tribal district. They said the incident occurred on Wednesday.

The ISPR statement said the security forces conducted the operation after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area. During the exchange of fire, Captain Sikander, 27, who hailed from Pakpattan, was martyred, it said.

“TTP terrorist commander Khawaza Din alias Sher Khan was killed in the operation. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the hideout,” the statement added. The sources said Lance Naik Anwar and Lance Naik Salman were injured in the gunfight.

Earlier, ten terrorists, including their four leaders, were killed during an operation in South Waziristan district on Tuesday. Weapons and a huge quantity of ammunition were also recovered.
