SWABI: One person was killed and two others were injured when a Rescue 1122 vehicle hit a motorcycle in Topi city on Sunday, the police said.

The Topi police registered a case on the complaint of Zareen Gul, the father of the deceased, Ghulam Hussain.

He told the police that he along with his son and daughter-in-law was going on a motorcycle when a vehicle of the rescue service hit them, leaving all of them injured.

He said his son succumbed to injuries in the tehsil headquarters hospital.

Separately, the narcotics eradication team (NET) arrested a man recovered over three kilogrammes of charas from a house in Yar Hussain village on Sunday.

SHO Akbar Ali, who is the district head of NET, said the police raided the house of Sher Hussain on a tip-off, adding a Kalashnikov, two pistols and several rounds were also recovered during the raid.

A case was registered against the accused.

DISPUTE RESOLUT-ION: Members of jirgas, dispute resolution council, ulema and police officers on Sunday vowed to work collectively for peaceful settlement of blood feuds, property disputes and other issues among people to prevent loss of precious lives and establish durable peace in the Swabi district.

They were speaking at a meeting called by district police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan at Shahmansoor police lines here.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser also graced the occasion.

Speaking at the event, religious figure Maulana Mohammad Tayyab said ulema were ready to play their role in the settlement of issues at early stage. He said rivalries should be avoided and people should spend their resources on providing quality education to their sons and daughters.

On the occasion, Mr Qaiser said a mechanism should be formulated to ensure that rivalries were resolved at the local level instead of going to courts.
