KOHAT: The Shakardarra police on Wednesday foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons and ammunition from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision to the Mianwali district of Punjab by arresting two carriers.

The arms traffickers were travelling in a passenger coach, the police said, adding a Kalashnikov, a 12-bore repeater, six pistols, and 1,400 cartridges were recovered from secret cavities of the coach.

The accused, Sultan Ahmed and Ahmed Sher, belonged to Mianwali. The police registered an FIR against them.

Meanwhile, the Lachi police arrested two proclaimed offenders during an intelligence-based operation in Khadar Khel area of Momandi on Wednesday.

DSP Nazir Hussain said SHO Tariq Mehmood along with a team laid a siege to a house and asked the outlaws to surrender, but they refused. However, after some resistance, the police arrested them.

The outlaws, Sohail Khan and Sanaullah, had killed a man in Malir area of Karachi and fled to Kohat.

The police also seized two Kalashnikovs, three pistols, four chargers, and hundreds of cartridges from them.

DSP Nazir said after necessary paperwork they would be handed over to the Karachi police.

Meanwhile, an OGDCL employee, who was shot at and injured by attackers outside his house in Hayat Shaheed Colony of College Town on Tuesday night, died at the CMH on Wednesday.

The police quoted the family as saying when Yasir Bokhari, 30, opened the door after someone rang the bell, a man fired a bullet in his chest.

The Saddar police registered a case against the accused.

Also, body of a teenager, who had drowned in Tanda Dam, was retrieved on Wednesday.

The body was shifted to the KDA Teaching Hospital for identification.

In another development, Orakzai district food controller Qazi Fidaur Rehman has directed the local flour mills to ensure uninterrupted subsidised wheat flour supply to the dealers to avoid its shortage in the market.

On the directives of deputy commissioner Mohammad Khalid Khan, the food department official visited the flour mills and checked the stock register, the weight of bags, availability of flour and details of supply to the designated dealers.

He asked the miller to ensure timely supply of the commodity to the market so no shortage was caused.
