RAWALPINDI: Two children were allegedly sexually assaulted in Kahuta and Jatli areas, according to police reports.

The first incident was reported to police by the victim’s father, resident of village of Kontrila (Gujar Khan). He informed Jatli police that his son, a fourth grade student, left his house to buy some items from his uncle’s shop.

He said his wife called the shop owner to inform him that their son was on his way but she got concerned upon finding out that he had not reached the shop. Later, he said, he found the suspect sexually assaulting the child, who was weeping.

He added that when he challenged the suspect, he left the child and sped off on his motorcycle.

Police say that the accused was arrested by Investigating Officer Arslan and his medical examination was conducted.

The second incident happened in Kahuta area where a child was sexually assaulted by two people.

Father of the victim complained to police that as he returned home after offering Maghrib prayer, he found his son screaming. Upon being asked what the matter was, the child revealed that he was sexually assaulted by two. The accused suspects are yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile, on instructions of Special Coordinator to Chief Minister Punjab and Chairperson Child Protection Bureau, Sarah Ahmad, an awareness campaign, titled ‘Pukar Project’ was launched in collaboration with Islamic Relief, Pakistan for protection of children’s rights.

Ms Ahmad participated in the inauguration as the chief guest.

Ms Tehmina Mohsin, advisor to the chairperson, MPA Farah Agha, PTI activist Ahmad Janjua,Mr Abdullah Khan, additional deputy commissioner, Rawalpindi,country director of Islamic Relief Pakistan Umair Hassan, DSP (Traffic) Raja Nadir and others attended the function.

Focal Persons for the project in Rawalpindi Imran Raja and Taimur were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, the chairperson said the campaign aims to raise awareness for protection of children’s rights.

The Child Protection Bureau is effectively protecting children through public-private partnerships.

Chairperson Sarah Ahmad said for the child protection campaign, the administration and NGOs should work together. Under the campaign, the Child Protection Bureau and other agencies will jointly run awareness campaigns.

Citizens have been encouraged to report cases of child abuse to the helpline 1121 or 15.
