ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Maritime Affairs Mahmood Maulvi on Thursday said the Sindh government had not released wheat to flour mills with the result that its price in the province was rising constantly.

In a video statement, he asked the Sindh government not to abuse people, especially the Karachiites. He lamented that flour was being sold at Rs70-75 per kilogram in Karachi while its price in Punjab was Rs57-58 per kg.

Mr Maulvi said the Sindh government had 1.2 million tonnes of wheat in its stocks, adding that if it timely released wheat to flour mills, the prices would come down automatically.

He said there was no shortage of wheat. The new crop would be ready by March, he said, adding that the federal government was also importing wheat to cater to the needs of people.
