KOHAT: Heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm broke the extended hot spell in Kohat and Shangla districts on Sunday, as upper parts of Malakand and Hazara received snowfall.

In Kohat, hails of a large size forced the people to park their vehicles under sheds and trees, as the falling hailstones created dents on the bonnets and windscreens of several cars.

The hailstones covered the main roads and streets in Kohat, Hangu and Orakzai districts and Thall and Darra Adamkhel areas. These areas also received heavy showers.

In Shangla, the first snowfall of the winter was also recorded in upper parts of the district on Sunday.

Meanwhile, snowfall on mountains in Malakand and Hazara and light rain in the plain areas, including Peshawar, brought the mercury level down on Sunday, driving away the prolonged sweltering season.

According to the Met office, minimum temperature was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius.
