KARACHI: Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari has given birth to a son, family members said on Monday.

The announcement came from Bakhtawar — the elder daughter of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and former president Asif Ali Zardari — who took to social media to share the news.

“We are happy to announce the birth of our baby boy,” she tweeted with a heart-shaped emoji mentioning Oct 10 as the date of her son’s birth.

Reacting to the news, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and his younger sister Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari welcomed their uncle and aunt titles with heart emojis.

Bakhtawar tied the knot with Mahmood Chaudhry, the son of a US-based businessman, in January this year.

PPP leaders Sherry Rehman and Saeed Ghani were among the first to congratulate the couple on the birth of their firstborn before the social media platform was stormed with good wishes, prayers and congratulation messages.

A PPP source said the baby was born in Dubai and the party chairman while cutting short his Larkana visit flew immediately to the United Arab Emirates where he would stay for a couple of days.
