LAHORE: A newly married girl was tortured to death allegedly by her in-laws on Mira Lajpal Road in Shadbagh area on Monday.

Afia was married to her relative, Suleman Gujjar.

The police registered a murder case against Suleman, his brothers, sisters and parents while nominating them in an FIR lodged by Afia’s mother Nasreen Bibi.

According to the FIR, the nominated accused persons used to torture Afia on petty domestic issues besides asking her to bring money from her parents. On Monday, they again physically assaulted her and then informed her mother that she had suffered injuries after falling from the roof.

Later, it appeared that Suleman and his family members tortured her and then threw her from the rooftop of their house to mislead the police and her parents, the FIR said.The girl later succumbed to her critical head and chest injuries at a local hospital. A police team has been dispatched to arrest the nominated accused persons.

The Hajanrwal police have already arrested the owner of the house where 13-year-old girl had been working for the last couple of years. A few days back, her father got a shocking call from the house owner who claimed that his daughter had committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop of the house.

Following the phone call, he rushed to his house where the house owner paid him money to perform her burial. The man found some torture marks on her body and alerted the police which sent it for a postmortem examination.

The police have also registered a case and arrested family members of the house owner on the complaint of deceased girl’s father.

Following the postmortem report issued on Monday, the police launched an investigation to confirm the allegations of rape with the girl before her murder.
