LAHORE: The Governors of the Punjab and NWFP today [Oct 11] expressed optimism over the outcome of the Governor’s meeting on the question of distribution of irrigation water.... Talking to newsmen at Lahore airport ... the Governor of the NWFP, Lt-Gen. K. M. Azhar, said they had discussed the question and had made some recommendations, which were being sent to the President, who would take a decision.
Asked if the recommendations by the three Governors were unanimous, he said “more or less.” He said that he was very optimistic about a solution of the problem.... Asked as to when the supplies from Chashma reservoir would be resumed, he said as soon as the President gives his final decision.... — Staff correspondent
[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Teheran,] Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran conferred for two hours ... when President Sadat stopped over in Teheran en route to Moscow. The Shah personally welcomed President Sadat at Mehrabad Airport where the talks were held. … [I]nformed sources said it was certain the two leaders had reviewed the political and military situation in the Middle East and the problems to be faced when the British pull out of the Gulf area by the end of this year.
