LAHORE: As many as 262 more people tested positive for the dengue virus during the last 24 hours in Punjab, bringing the total number of cases to 4,494 so far.

Of them, 184 confirmed cases were reported in Lahore, 31 in Rawalpindi, 9 in Nankana Sahib, 6 in Multan, 4 in Hafizabad, 3 each in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, jhang and Sargoda, whereas two two patients each were reported in Attock, Gujrat, Narowal and Sialkot, respectively.

Out of the total number of dengue cases surfacing in Punjab since January, a majority, 3,437, were reported in the provincial capital Lahore.

The provincial health department said that presently 564 dengue patients were undergoing treatment across Punjab, of which 265 were in Lahore’s hospitals.

Meanwhile, primary and secondary healthcare department Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch directed the officials concerned to intensify the dengue prevention activities across the province.

In his statement issued here on Tuesday, he said, stressed the need for precautionary measures against dengue, appealing to the citizens to be more responsible to prevent the disease and don’t let water accumulate in their house and areas.
