DADU: A five-member team of Spanish archaeologists arrived at Taloor Ji Bhit in Khairpur Mirs district on Thursday and started excavating the historical and archeological site to unearth history.

The team comprising Mr Carlo, Mr Stefano, Ms Carolina and Mr Oscar led by Mr Marco is carrying out the excavation work in collaboration with Shah Abdul Latif University and Sindh Archaeology and Antiquities Department.

Mr Marco said that they planned to dig up all parts of the Taloor Ji Bhit and try to unearth all strata of the bhit (mound) to explore its history and different chapters of civilisation. “Bhit is rich in history and its excavation will unearth new facets of ancient civilisation,” said Mr Oscar.

Sindh Archaeology and Antiquities director general Manzoor Ahmed Kansaro said that he had requested the Spanish archaeologists during discussions to join the archaeology and antiquities department’s work on excavation at other historical and archeological sites as well to explore ancient history of civilisations of the yore.

He said that Spanish archaeologists had agreed to his suggestion and high level of research and exploration work had been carried out at archeological sites in Sindh over the last three years, which was unprecedented in the history of Pakistan. Experts of archaeology and antiquities had prepared a plan to start excavation at Birhamanabad, Lila Ja Atan and Amri remains, he said.

He said that an Italian team of archaeologists would start excavation work at Bhambhore in November 2021 and French archaeologists would conduct excavation at archeological site in Chanhyo Daro in January 2022.

Earlier, the team held meetings with Archaeology and Antiquities director general Mr Kanasaro and Archaeology and Antiquities director Abdul Fatah Shaikh.
