LAHORE: As many as 1,658 graduates were awarded degrees in various disciplines at the 20th annual convocation of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) on Thursday.

As many as 822 degrees were awarded for bachelors programme, 191 for masters, 608 for MS/M.Phil and 37 for PhD.

Furthermore, 10 patron’s gold medals, 12 rector’s silver medals, seven rector’s academic excellence awards, six certificates of excellence, six research publication award for MS/MPhil students, five highest number of publications (faculty), five highest impact factor publication (faculty) were also given away on the occasion of the convocation.

UMT President Ibrahim Hasan Murad congratulated the graduates and said youth were the architects of the future.

Chief guest Dr Samar Mubarakmand congratulated the students on their success and said there was a time when the country did not have enough resources for its defence but now Pakistan is a first nuclear state in Muslim world and seventh in the world.

ILM Trust Chairman Dr Ahmed Omar Murad and UMT Rector Dr Asif Raza also addressed the convocation.

Later, UMT President Mr Murad presented a souvenir to Dr Mubarakmand.

ALLOWANCE: The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) approved qualification allowance for MPhil and PhD teachers of the college.

The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Colleges (Punjab) has approved the qualification allowance of college teachers.

Thousands of teachers have submitted their academic credentials to the department.

The HED had approved Rs10,000 allowance per month for PhD and Rs5,000 per month for MPhil.
