LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized 2,500 kilogram contaminated spices in an operation in Dubanpura here on Multan Road on Thursday.

The raiding team faced six hours long resistance from the food business operators during the operation and it was successful in opening the premises with the help of police.

Punjab Food Authority Director General Rafaqat Ali Nissoana said the authority found adulteration of harmful colours and chemicals in red chilli powder.

He said the PFA officials also witnessed the worst condition of hygiene, poor storage system and non-compliance of the authority’s instructions.

Mr Nissoana said adulterated spices were supplied to different local shops in attractive packaging.

He said the use of tainted spices was causing health problems in the public.

The PFA director general requested the general public to point out adulterators for rooting out adulteration.

Meanwhile, the city district administration launched a crackdown on farms of animals in the residential areas.

Cantonment Assistant Commissioner Zeeshan Nasarullah Ranjha led the operation at Burki Road, Wagah and Paragon City.

The teams demolished several farms of animals and seized the animals. The farms were demolished by using heavy machinery.

The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) employees were also directed to clear the areas.
