MIANWALI: A man was killed and another injured in a fire in the salt mine near Kalabagh on Thursday.

Reports said a group of miners was working in the salt mine and complained to contractor Haji Bashir Khan about smell of gas. The contractor entered the mine to confirm gas leakage and tried to light a lamp but its flame caught fire with a blast.

Haji Bashir and miner Ali Mohammad, who belongs to Kalabagh, suffered burns and were taken to the THQ hospital of Kalabagh from where they were referred to Mianwali’s DHQ hospital burns unit.

The doctors further referred them to the burns unit at a Kharian hospital where Haji Bashir succumbed to injuries while the other person was said to be stable.
