ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday dismissed the petitions filed against the indictment of three accused, Zakir Jaffer, Asmat Adamjee and Tahir Zahoor, in Noor Mukadam case as they requested for withdrawal of the petitions.

The defence counsel Raja Rizwan Abbasi adopted before IHC Justice Aamer Farooq his client had instructed him to withdraw the petition.

Subsequently, the court dismissed the petition as withdrawn.

During the course of hearing on Oct 20, the petitioner’s counsel stated that the indictment gives an impression as if it was carried out on the longing of the prosecution adding that the order suggested that the court can frame charges against the accused while copying the police challan and making it a mechanical exercise.

The petitioners have also moved an application to seek copy of evidence including audio-visual material which the prosecution has planned to lay before the court during the course of trial.

Meanwhile, the Advocate General of Islamabad Niazullah Khan Niazi discussed the strategy to pursue the appeals coming from the trial court with the prosecution team.

The prosecution as well as the counsel of the accused is challenging the orders of the trial court.

Niazi also apprised to media the efforts being made to pursue the appeals in the Islamabad High Court in an effective manner.

He said no one was above the Law and the rule of Law will ultimately be prevailed He further said the office of the advocate general was committed to maintaining the supremacy of constitution and rule of law.

He also discussed other legal matters and his efforts for establishment of judicial complex, lawyer chambers, establishment of prosecutions branch and creations of positions as assistant advocate general and additional advocate general in AGI office.
